The Creation of Pinewood Toronto Studios
The idea for the studio originated with a plan to develop it on 4.5 hectares of land in Toronto’s industrial Port Lands area. This location already housed several smaller studios. Construction began in August 2006, and Pinewood Toronto Studios officially opened four years later.

The first expansion focused on adding 260,000 square feet of space, including 45,000 square feet of sound stages. In 2012, Pinewood Toronto Studios began its second expansion, adding three new sound stages on an additional 2.2 acres. Eleven years later, the studio expanded further with an additional 170,000 square feet of production space and five new sound stages.
In 2024, Pinewood Toronto Studios signed an exclusive agreement with Amazon MGM Studios for the use of its new production facilities.
One of the studio’s highlights is its Mega Stage, the largest sound stage in the complex. Spanning over 46,000 square feet, it was the largest purpose-built sound stage in North America until 2016.
